Broad Street, Birmingham is a major thoroughfare in Birmingham City Centre, United Kingdom. Earlier, Broad Street was considered to be outside Birmingham City Centre, however, as the city centre expanded and due to its position within the A4540 road, Broad Street was incorporated into it and is now considered part of the city centre.
During the 1750s, Broad Street was just an unnamed country path that ran across Easy Hill from Bewdley Street and Swinford Street to Five Ways and on to Stourbridge and Bewdley. During the 1990s, Broad Street underwent a major change and was transformed into a dynamic convention, entertainment and nightlife quarter.
There are numerous bars and restaurants in Broad Street, including the Brindleyplace development and cultural attractions such as the Ikon Gallery. Broad Street is basically an adult place with so many bars; you need to be 18 to get into many and 21 into a few.
Broad Street has its own ‘walk of fame’ (similar to the walk of fame in Hollywood) called the ‘Walk of Stars’. This runs along the pavement on Broad Street. Ozzy Osbourne, of the Aston area of Birmingham, became the first person to be honored when he had his brass star installed on July 6, 2007.
