The Broward Center for the Performing Arts, is a part of the Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment District, and was opened in 1991 to meet the growing cultural needs of the surrounding community. Since then, it has assumed management of several nearby community theaters, including the Parker Playhouse and the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center.

Venues at the Broward Center include the Au-Rene Theater, which has the capacity for 2,700 people, and hosts major regional, national, international productions, such as Phantom of the Opera. The more intimated Amaturo Theatre plays hosts to smaller children's theater productions and symphonic groups. The Abdo New River Room has a 500-person capacity, available for banquets and conferences. Student programming and professional development opportunities include the Workshops to Go, Cultural Adventures Educator Workshops, Smart Stage Matinees, and Summer Academies.
