The Palace of Justice in Brussels is the most important Court building in Belgium and is a famous landmark of Brussels. It was built between 1866 and 1883 in the eclectic style by architect Joseph Poelaert. The total cost of the construction, land and furnishings was approximately 45 million Belgian francs. It is the biggest building constructed in the 19th century.
The Palace of Justice is a very imposing structure that dominates Brussels with its 26,000 square meter surface. The Palace of Justice in Brussels was inaugurated on the 15th of October 1883 in the presence of King Leopold II. Right from its beginning , the Palace of Justice has attracted visitors from all over Europe and the whole world. At its opening, there were many people who rushed from all over Europe to come and discover and take in the grandeur of the building.
The size of the building is simply outstanding. For example, Saint Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City measures a massive 4,000 square meters less than Brussels' Palace of Justice. Interestingly, the Palace of Justice is still one of the greatest hewn-stone buildings ever made.
The Palace of Justice is situated at Place Poelaert, Brussels, Belgium, and is open to public only on Sundays.
