Located in Cheektowaga, Erie County, New York, is the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport, formerly known as the Greater Buffalo International Airport. Serving the City of Buffalo, New York, and Southwest Ontario Canada, the airport was built in 1926 and opened on May 11, 1939. Today the two-runway airport services many passenger airlines and cargo carriers, with commercial carriers including Air Tran, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta, Jet Blue, NWA, Southwest, United, and U.S. Airways. After a long history of renovations and expansions a new terminal was built in 1995 between the two, then existing, terminal buildings. The 14-gate terminal building features a variety of shops and restaurants such as the Lake Erie Pub, the Landmark Bar & Carvery, Jake’s Bistro & News, Anchor Bar, Mattie’s Texas Red Hots, Everything ASAP and the Monarch Newsstand & Gift Shop. Ground transportation from the Airport is offered by local Metrobus and regional bus service, regional shuttles, taxis, hotel shuttles, limousine, and car rentals from Alamo, Avis, Boulevard, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty rental companies. Canadian ground transportation is also available.
