Bundaberg Airport

The Bundaberg Airport officially opened on the twelfth of December, 1931. The Minister for Customers opened the airport for civilian use. At the World War II onset, Bundaberg Airport was developed as a flight training school for the Royal Australian Air Force, or the RAAF by the Empire Air Training Scheme. First used in 1941 by the No. 12 Elementary Flying Training School or EFTS, the RAAF Station Bundaberg was fully operational until the 12 EFTS transferred to Lowood Aerodrome in 1942. The school was then operated from the base by the No. 8 Service Flying Training School.

In 1946, The Department of Civil Aviation took over Bundaberg Aerodrome. In 1983, the Bundaberg City Council took over the airport and a new terminal was opened on May 9, 1986. Flights daily to and from Brisbane and Gladstone are available from this airport.

Bundaberg war graves are located within the Bundaberg General Cemetery containing 46 burials of airmen and soldiers of the Australian Forces as well as five airmen from the United States Army Air Corps.
