Burger’s Zoo is located in Arnhem and is one of the largest zoos from Netherlands.
It has eight theme sites: Burger’s Dierenpark, which is the original park; Burger’s Ocean; this contains seawater aquariums; Burger’s Mangrove. Here, how does suggest the name, is a mangrove swamp; Burger’s Avontureland, where is the zoo’s playground which was opened in 2002; Burger’s Safari, where people can see how is the life in the African safari area; Burger’s Bush(a tropical rainforest); Burger’s Desert. This site focuses on the Sonoran desert; The last one is the newest from the park’s attractions, opened in 2008 and is named Burger’s Rimba. A Southeast Asian rainforest impression is given to the visitors by the vegetation and the animals displayed here: reticulated pythons, Sumatran tigers, Malayan sun bears, Sri Lanka’s leopards, golden cheeked gibbons, golden jackals and much more.
Burgers' Zoo also has facilities for conservation and breeding of captive animals nearly extinct, apart from presenting many of its animals in simulated habitat in spacious indoors ecosystems. For example, the Socorro Dove does not exist outside captivity at present because it was wiped out by introduced mammals on its home island.
It’s easy to get to the zoo by car, but public transport is also a good and more ecological choice. Arnhem is the only Dutch city which has trolleybuses. In the summertime, line 13 runs between the station and the zoo.
