The Burgtheater is one of the most important German language theatres in the world and second-oldest theatre still in existence after the Comédie Francaise. This is the Austrian National Theatre in Vienna, Austria.

The Burgtheater was created in 1741 and the Viennese population known it as “die Burg” and it created a typical traditional style and speech of theater’s performances.

All the variety of spoken theatre is included in its program: experimental theatre and readings as well as classics and contemporary pieces. The Burgtheater has 1175 seats, 81 standing places and a room for 12 wheelchair and escort, but is still recommended to buy tickets in advance, because the venue is often full. Three other location are used by Burgtheater in addition of the main building: the Kasino, a studio with 70 seats placed in the main building, the “Akademietheater”, a hall with 500 seats and “Kasino” a 200 seats hall.

Torists should know that tickets costs from four to forty-four Euros for Burgtheater and Akademietheater and for the other location prices are between seven and twenty-two Euros, but prices may slightly vary depending on the performance. In addition there are the so-called cycles witch includes four performances with a common theme with a 10% discount. If the tourists are lucky enough, they might catch a last-minute ticket at half a price.

To reach the Burgtheater can be used the underground, getting of at Rathausplatz. Trams no. 1 and 2 have a stop at Burgtheater.
