The Burgwin-Wright Museum House was once the site of General Cornwallis’ headquarters in the late 1700’s. John Burgwin, former treasurer of the colony of Carolina, built the house using the old jail that previously occupied the land as his foundation. Today this restored colonial home features a museum as well as several garden areas. The Burgwin-Wright Museum House is a beautiful example of Georgian-style architecture and is the oldest of its kind in Southeastern North Carolina.

The museum is located at 224 Market St. in Historic Downtown Wilmington and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission cost is $10. Guided tours are available. For directions to the Burgwin-Wright House, visit http://burgwinwrighthouse.com/.
