Having been given the status of Washington State Museum in the year 1899, the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture is one of the many outstanding museums in the city of Seattle. It is located at the intersection of 17th Avenue and North 45th Street in the University District of the city, not far from Union Bay waterfront. This outstanding institution has over 12 million different artifacts and natural specimens on display, covering such diverse areas as Native American cultures of the Pacific Northwest and dinosaur fossils.

Among the most notable collections on hand at the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture are the biggest collection of spread bird wings in the world (something which Burke, the founder, pioneered as a technique), and the fifth biggest Northwest Pacific and Alaskan Native art piece collection in the world.

The Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture is open every day of the week (except major holidays) from the hours of 10am-5pm. Admission to the museum is charged $9.50 for adults and $6 for students and children. Free admission is available to all members of the public on the first Thursday of every month.
