Situated in the center of Buttonwood Park in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Buttonwood Park Zoo is a small public zoo displaying over 200 species of animals. Opened in 1894, Buttonwood Park Zoo is the 12th oldest zoo in the United States, and has been described as one of the finest small zoos in the U.S.

The zoo categorizes exhibits into five separate categories, North America East, North America West, Aquatics, Elephants, and Domestics. Especially notable are the Mountain Lion, Black Bear, and Asian Elephant exhibits, all of which are fairly rare for a zoo the size of Buttonwood Park. In addition to the zoo itself, Buttonwood Park Zoo hosts numerous educational programs for the New Bedford and surrounding Southern Massachusetts communities, as well as special events like Boo at The Zoo and Toddler Tales Thursdays.

Located at 425 Hawthorne Street in New Bedford, the Buttonwood Park Zoo is within easy walking distance of the New Bedford High School, and a short drive from the New Bedford Whaling Museum. The Zoo is open daily from 10 A.M. until 5 P.M., and admission ranges from $3 - $6, with on-site parking available free of charge to all visitors.
