While Sarasota, Florida might not be the first spot that visitors think of when they picture majestic mansions, it has more than its fair share from the glory days of old, and most are in some way associated with the Ringling family. True patrons of the arts, this famous couple left behind a great deal of money, as well as an excellent collection of art, for the city to display as a museum.

However, to many, the real piece of art is the Ca d'Zan Mansion, the Ringling's mansion, which in recent years has been restored and is a popular site for both weddings and cultural events. A beautiful and stately waterfront mansion designed by architect Dwight James Baum in Venetian Gothic style, the mansion was, during its heyday, the site of many a thriving party associated with the cultural and artistic community of the city.

Today, visitors can tour through its splendid 56 rooms and experience a great deal of awe and wonder upon seeing the cornucopia of artifacts and ornate pieces of furniture, many of which came from the far reaches of Italy. A recent conservation push has restored the building so wonderfully that you can almost hear the voices of guests from those beautiful parties of old calling out and carrying on through one of the many famous dinners that occurred in the space.

Ca d'Zan Mansion is open daily, from ten in the morning until five-thirty in the afternoon. Guided tours are also available daily. A number of hotels are just a short drive from Ca d'Zan Mansion, including the Sleep Inn Hotel Sarasota, the Courtyard Sarasota, and the Hyatt Place Hotel Sarasota.
