Situated at 1201 Mason Street in San Francisco's Nob Hill neighborhood, the Cable Car Museum is a fascinating place to visit that catches the attention of many passersby. The museum is home to a varied collection of historic cable cars and cable car parts as well as photographs and other displays relating to the city's fabled cable cars.

Among the displays is a car and trailer used in the 1870s by the city's innovative cable car system. The Cable Car Museum forms part of the complex used by the city's ongoing cable car system, adjacent to the car depot and the power house, and there is an area to view the enormous cavern underground where the haulage cables are passed out to the street.
