Enclosed within a classic heritage building in the tropical North Queensland is the Cairns Regional Gallery. This building, which was the former public curator’s building completed in 1936, was constructed with stone and brick. The building then underwent renovations in 1995 before opening once more as the Cairns Regional Gallery.

The Gallery features fine arts exhibits from local and international collections on contemporary and historical topics as well as the work of Torres Strait Islander artists and Aboriginal art.

Many artists in residence live and work in this dynamic art community. The Gallery also exhibits tropical north artists’ work. Artists in residence include Russell Drysdale, Ian Fairweather, Margaret Olley and Donald Friend.

The Gallery has a shop where visitors can peruse a wide array of quality Australian jewellery, ceramics, glassware, books and magazines as well as cards on sale. The Gallery is open to the public from Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Several function rooms are also available for any gathering, meeting or catered event you may have.
