The Calanque de Sugiton is one of the numerous calanques located between Marseille and Cassis. (A calanque is a geologic formation in the form of a deep valley with steep sides, typically of limestone, in part submerged by the sea. It can be considered a Mediterranean fjord.) Though it is quite small, Sugiton is perhaps the most popular of all Marseille calanques, simply because it can be easily accessed by hikers, and because it is open to tourists even during hot season, unlike most calanques. The Pebble beach at Calanque de Sugiton, which is about an hour’s walk from the creek of Sugiton, is very inviting. The idleness of the small creeks which line it, white rocks, pines soaking in turquoise blue water are just a few of its beautiful features. You can climb up the small island appearing in the middle of the creek called “the torpedo boat ". It is so called, because of its unique shape which resembles that of warships. You can get to Calanque de Sugiton easily; it is a 1 hour walk from the Luminy University car park, a 30 minute walk from the Morgiou calanque.
