Locate at 1020 O Street in the heart of Sacramento, capital city of California, the California Museum for History, Women and the Arts is a top-level facility open to the public. It is the home of the California Hall of Fame and happens to be housed at the state's old Archives Building, just a stone's throw away from the Capitol building. There is a total of some 20,000 square feet of exhibition space at the California Museum (the abbreviated form of the name), and a wide variety of displays to be found within.

Originally opened simply as the Golden State Museum in 1998, in 2004 the museum was given its present denomination following a majorly successful and ground-breaking display titled "California's Remarkable Women," which gave unprecedented space and importance to the accomplishments of women throughout the state during its history. Current exhibits at the museum include "American Masterpieces: the Artistic Legacy of California Indian Basketry" and "Out of This World: Extraordinary Costumes from Television and Film."
