The California State Capitol building in the capital city of Sacramento is home not only to many still functioning official offices and chambers, but furthermore is the site of the California State Capitol Museum. The historic building, which was renovated between 1975 and 1982 to return it to previous glory, serves a dual purpose then, on the one hand continuing to be the seat of government for the state of California and at the same time serving as a historical museum.

The California State Capitol Museum is open to visitors from 9am-5pm daily, and there is no charge for admission to the building. When the legislature is in session, visitors get to experience the actual process of law-making and presence the debates unfolding on the floor. Alternatively, there are historic and restored offices that used to be used by the state Attorney General, Secretary of State, Governor, and Treasurer all of which can be toured. Outside the building, 40 acres of garden area finishes out the offering of things to do at the California State Capitol Museum.
