A ride on the train to the Camden Amtrak Station is a journey into the history of the quaint southern community of Camden, South Carolina. Opened in 1937, the station, with its colonial revival architectural style, is part of City of Camden’s Historic District. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the year 2000.

Camden was an important locale during both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, and is today recognized for its architectural and military significance. Named after the British Lord Camden, an advocate for colonial rights, the first streets were laid in 1774. Enveloped in 178 acres of sprawling parkland, some of the city’s original beauty was lost in a devastating fire in 1813. After many years of rebuilding, the city was placed on the National Register on May 6, 1971. Vacationers and history buffs alike find a multitude of historical buildings and sites to explore while staying in Camden.

Formerly a Seaboard Air Line Railroad train station, this Amtrak station lies along the daily Silver Service/Palmetto route which extends from New York to Miami.
