Hotels near Çankaya, Ankara, Turkey .

Çankaya is the central metropolitan district of the city of Ankara, the capital of Turkey, and an administrative district of Ankara Province. According to the 2000 census, the population of the district was 769,331; of which 758,490 live in the urban center of Çankaya. Çankaya was a hillside of gardens and orchards to the south of the city, surrounding the Ankara Castle on the opposite hill. Everything changed in the 1920s when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk came to stay in one of the garden houses. Atatürk selected Ankara as capital of the new republic and in the 1920s and 30s the city quickly grew, especially in the direction of Çankaya. The early buildings of the republic reflect the grand Ottoman style, but today Çankaya also contains quite a number of extraordinary modern buildings. There are also a great number of theatres, museums, cinemas, booksellers, publishers, libraries and cultural associations. Some of the places of interest in Çankaya include; The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, Anitkabir (the mausoleum of Atatürk), the Ankara Ethnography Museum, etc. Kizilay - the heart of the city, is an attractive jumble of bustling streets tightly packed with people teeming in and out of schools and evening classes, cafés, and shops especially bookshops. The pavements are generally crowded with hawkers. Kumrular Sokak is a beautiful tree-lined street of cafés; it is a great place to experience the tastes of Ankara. Sakarya Caddesi is another street that is famous for its bars and fish restaurants, this is also Ankara's drinking capital. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Çankaya,_Ankara
