anning Town is situated in the area of the former London docks on the north side of the River Thames. It is an area of East London, England and is part of the London Borough of Newham. Canning town was originally known as Hallsville, it is thought to be named after the first Viceroy of India, Charles John Canning, who suppressed the Indian Mutiny. Despite being a neighbor to many Dockland developments, Canning Town still remains among the top 5 per cent of the most deprived areas in the UK with local people suffering from poor health, low education and poverty. According to the Newham council, the character of Canning Town and Custom House is typified as being a loose and dispersed urban structure, with poorly defined public spaces and a confused layout of suburban streets. The closest London Underground station is Canning Town on the Jubilee Line. It is also an interchange with the Docklands Light Railway. The station is in Travelcard Zone 3. Some of the other places nearby are; Plaistow, Poplar, Silvertown, West Ham, East Ham and Beckton. The Thames Barrier Park is a great park, just next to the barrier of the Thames; the park has well laid out gardens and is an excellent place to relax. If you are interested in Bingo, the Gala Bingo is the place to be, with a large Bingo hall, slot machines, bar and refreshment corner, you are sure to have an enjoyable time. Transportation is available in Caning town; the public transport system provides adequate facilities for locals and visitors.
