Just feet from the banks of the Cape Fear River, in a trendy part of historic downtown Wilmington, the Cape Fear Serpentarium is a small private zoo displaying over 100 species of snakes.

The Serpentarium features exhibits displaying a number of the most poisonous snakes in the world, including King Cobras, black mambas, and the Gaboon viper. Also of note at the Cape Fear Serpentarium are the Nile crocodile and monitor lizard exhibits, as well as the fairly disgusting photos of the results that various types of snakebites have on humans. Popular amongst snake enthusiasts, the Serpentarium holds a feeding hour on Saturdays and Sundays after 2 P.M., when the snakes are fed boiled rats.

The Cape Fear Serpentarium is located at 20 Orange Street in Wilmington, North Carolina. Hours of operation are from 11 A.M. until 5 P.M. Monday through Friday, and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 A.M. until 6 P.M. Admission is $8, with children under the age of two admitted free.
