Cardiff Airport (ICAO: EGFF) is an international airport that serves Cardiff and the rest of South, Mid and West Wales. Approximately 2 million passengers pass through the airport each year. The airport is located in the village of Rhoose, Vale of Glamorgan, 19 kilometers west of Cardiff’s city center. Cardiff is the country's largest city and its capital.

Cardiff Airport is the only airport in Wales that offers scheduled international flights and is served by scheduled, low-fare, business and charter carriers. It also supports corporate and general aviation. Most international flights are to Spain, Ireland and the Netherlands, the most popular being to Alicante, Amsterdam, Palma de Mallorca. The most heavily traveled domestic service within the UK is to Edinburgh. In addition, there are transatlantic charter flights to the USA and the Caribbean.[4]
The airport is a hub for Bmibaby, the largest scheduled airline at the airport, with Aer Arann, Flybe, Thomson Airways and Thomas Cook Airlines also prominent. In all, 9 airlines service the Cardiff Airport, along with 7 charter carriers.

The airport was activated as RAF Rhoose in 1942 and served as a base for Spitfire fighters in World War II. Now it is the main maintenance base for British Airways and home to a variety of aerospace-oriented firms and colleges. Therefore, it is a major contributor to the economic development of the region. The airport was used by just under 2 million passengers in 2008, making it the 19th busiest airport in the UK in terms of passenger numbers.

Rhoose Cardiff International Airport railway station, on the Vale of Glamorgan Line, is the nearest railway station and is linked by a free shuttle bus to the departures terminal. Arriva Trains Wales provides regular services to Cardiff Central Station and Bridgend, connecting it to the South Wales Main Line. Cardiff Bus, EST Buses and Veolia Transport Cymru buses serve the airport and provide regular shuttle services to Cardiff central bus station and the Vale of Glamorgan. Drivers can reach the Cardiff Airport from M4.
