With a display of over 50 static aircrafts, the Carolinas Aviation Museum was established in 1992 by Floyd and Lois Wilson. It began as an effort to conserve two hangars on the grounds of the Charlotte/Douglass Airport and today includes an extensive collection of helicopters, equipment, gadgets, aircrafts and printed material related to aviation history.

Permanent exhibits include a commercial aircraft collection, military aircrafts and interactive displays. Visitors are allowed to get into certain aircrafts and feel what it is to sit in the cockpit of a fighter plane. The Dolph Overton Aviation Library is also housed within the museum and contains an extensive collection readily available to interested parties.

The museum is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, visitors can catch those working on restoring the aircrafts in action. Admission is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children and senior citizens. For further information, visitors should head to www.carolinasaviation.org.
