Carrick Hill is located at Springfield, South Australia and has the privilege of being of one of the few remaining period houses in Australia today. The house design and interiors have remained preserved and protected even through the passage of time. The house was build upon the union of two of Adelaide’s most prominent families, the Haywards and the Smiths. Ursula Smith’s father gave the land as a wedding present to his daughter for her and her new husband to begin building their home.

James Irwin designed the house which was in construction from 1937 to 1939. During their lifetime, the Haywards filled their house with paintings, sculptures and antiques with Georgian and Victorian accents, which were considered priceless work even in its time. The gardens surrounding the house are also quite a sight to behold.

Carrick Hill house has not only become a museum nowadays, it has become a popular place where families can gather. It has a picnic area, walking tracks, conference rooms, cafes, and a restaurant for your convenience.

Admission prices for adults are $10.50, for children, students and senior citizens it is $6.50. A family package of $24.00 is available. Special discounts are given for groups. The grounds and gardens outside of the house are free of charge. Visiting hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays to Sundays and public holidays and have guided tours at 11:30 a.m. and at 2:30 p.m.
