The Cartoon Art Museum is dedicated to bringing more attention to the value of cartoon art. Through its extensive collections, catalogues, exhibits and preservation efforts, the museum tries to achieve its goals. The Cartoon Art Museum is located at 655 Mission Street.

Back in 1984, a handful of cartoon art collectors starting exhibiting their best pieces at different museums and art spaces. Charles Schulz, the man behind Peanuts, helped fund the opening of an actual museum in 1987, when it was located up Mission Street in the Yerba Buena Arts Center. The museum moved to its present location in 2001. With over 6,000 pieces in its permanent collection, the Cartoon Art Museum stands alone as the single institution entirely dedicated to cartoon art west of the Mississippi.

Hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Monday). Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and students and $2 for children ages 6-12. The first Tuesday of every month, admission is by donation.
