The Cartoon Research Library, which forms part of the Ohio State University's extensive library system, is located at 27 W. 17th Avenue Mall, in Columbus, Ohio. The Library got its starte in 1977 through a gift from the Milton Caniff Collection. Today, it is one of the largest research facilities dedicated to printed cartoon art, and houses numerous collections, which were mainy acquired through donation. Some of the famous collections of cartoons found amongst the 450,000 original works in the facility are fro Mort Walker, Bill Blackbeard, the Woody Gelman Collection of Windsor McCay cartoons, and the Bill Watterson Deposit Collection.

Special programs include the Festival of Cartoon Art, held at the Library triennially since 1983. Borrowing or recording material from the Library is not permitted. Upcoming exhibits include the Art and Life of Windsor McCay. Researchers should make prior appointments (available only during University breaks), and reading room exhibits are open without appointments. Opening hours are Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.
