Casa Blanca, literally translated means “White House,” but it should not be confused with its North American namesake. This Casa Blanca is located on San Sebastian Street in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and can trace its roots all the way back to 1521, which it was constructed by the Ponce de Leon family. Juan Ponce de Leon never lived in the house, although it stayed in his family for 250 years. As one of the oldest standing monuments in San Juan, the Casa Blanca has been at times also used as a military structure, fort, and museum. Its solid stone foundations made it an ideal fortification during military conflicts, and today, visitors can see the story of Puerto Rico's founding family in the Casa Blanca museum.
