Casa de Campo
The Casa de Campo is the largest public park in the municipality of Madrid (Spain). Located west of the city, administratively located in the neighborhood of Casa de Campo (district of Moncloa-Aravaca), bordered to the south by the district Latina and to the west by the town of Pozuelo de Alarcón. The park is annexed to the Monte de El Pardo and has an area of 1722.6 ha, including the grounds of the Club de Campo, which ceded part of its surface.
The Casa de Campo was the historic property of the Spanish Crown and hunting ground of royalty. After the proclamation of the Second Republic, was ceded by the state to the people of Madrid (May 1 of 1931), being open to the public since.
Inside are located several facilities like the Amusement Park, the Zoo, the cable car (which connects Casa de Campo with Park West, across the river Manzanares), part of the fairgrounds from IFEMA (Institution Ferial de Madrid), the indoor arena Madrid Arena, the sale of Batan (traditional place of confinement of the bulls in the days before his fighting in the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas) and different popular sports facilities. Historical points of interest are El Palacio de los Vargas, Puente de la Culebra, The wall, Wells, the Remains of the Civil War and Huerta de la Partida.
Many amateur athletes practicing in the park jogging, cycling, mountain biking, tennis, soccer, hiking or swimming. There are also celebrate athletics events and in the lake, canoeing and triathlon.
Also many people go to the many restaurants located in the old pavilions of the Feria del Campo and kiosks around the lake. To this must be added the visitors to the various fairs and events in the halls of the fairgrounds and at the Madrid Arena. Connections to the park are made by bus, metro or by car (the access is only allowed in certain areas and between certain hours).
