Gran Casino Sardinero

Sardinero is a popular beach situated in the Spanish city of Santander, Cantabria. Sardinero is lined with hotels, restaurants, and a casino, and is thought to be one of the most elegant beach resorts in Spain.

The Gran Casino was one of the first constructions to be built near Santander's beaches in El Sardinero. The original Casino, built midway through the nineteenth century was bought by a French organisation in 1870 and converted into the building tourists see today, which dates back to 1916.

When gambling was forbidden under the Franco dictatorship, the Casino was used for other activities like dances, weddings, theater and cinema screenings. In 1978, after Franco's death and the return to democracy, the Casino was completely overhauled, reopened and its original purpose was restored. All the usual diversions are on offer in the casino, like Black Jack, Roulette, Poker and slot machines. As an extra, there are banquet rooms, a restaurant, pub, café and an events room for parties. Various meeting rooms are also available, the largest of which can house up to 300 people. One section of the casino is dedicated to art exhibitions as well.
