Casino Kitzbühel, opened on the 22nd of December 1934, this was the third Austrian casino after Baden (early 1934) and Salzburg (summer 1934). After a 16-year break the Kitzbühel casino reopened for the winter season on the 25th of December 1954 with two French roulette double tables and one baccarat table.
From the time of its inception Casino Kitzbühel has been housed at the traditional Hotel Goldener Greif. The original building, which was constructed in 1274, is one of the most attractive in the town and has been family-owned for more than 100 years. The first inn, under the present name that is run by the mayor Franz Kriegseisen, dates back to 1590.
In 1989 major construction work was undertaken, the work started on the 17th of April, it was complete by the 25th of December, just in time for the start of the winter season. The official opening took place on 18 January 1990.
The ambiance and artwork of Casino Kitzbühel is set on the theme of gaming. As guests enter the entrance area they pass through a spacious foyer with handcrafted works by local artists, including four massive sculptures by Karl Obleitner which give the area a sense of lightness in spite of the heavy materials (steel and cement) that have been used in the construction of the building. Lighting effects and mirrors make the room appear even higher. These effects are continued throughout the rest of the casino, where the gaming theme is again much in evidence.
The casino also provides various package options for its guests. The casino is open every day 6:00 P.M. to 3:00 A.M. except on the 24th of December. All guests to the casino are required to be 18 years and above. A valid ID is required. The dress code is “Smart & Casual”, women are free to choose their attire and men are normally required to wear a shirt and jacket.
