Casino Salzburg is the second Austrian casino that was opened on the 1st of July 1934 in Schloss Mirabell. The Salzburg Casino was closed down during the Second World War and re-opened in July 1950. As it grew larger, it became necessary to move to new premises and so the casino took up residence in Café Restaurant Winkler in 1977 on the Mönchsberg overlooking the city.
With new games being introduced in the Casino Salzburg, more and more visitors began to come to the casino and a further enlargement of the casino became necessary. The additional premises at Schloss Klessheim were so popular that Casinos Austria decided to make it the casino’s permanent home.
The outstanding baroque castle on the outskirts of Salzburg was designed by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, Austria’s greatest baroque architect. The design was based on Versailles and the Palladian style of northern Italy. The castle itself is tremendously spacious and the casino occupies a large part of it. The combination of baroque art and modern gaming give the casino an atmosphere of its own.
The Salzburg Casino is open every day except on the 24th of December. Slot machines are available for use from 12 Noon to 3:00 A.M. and life games form 3:00 P.M to 3:00 A.M. free parking is available in front of the casino for guest. VISA, DINERS CLUB, MASTER CARD and JCB are the various card payment methods that are accepted.
