Hotels near Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, Saint Augustine, United States .

Originally founded by the Spanish in 1565, the city of St. Augustine, Florida, celebrates its heritage at the Castillo de San Marcos. This Spanish masonry fort, later Fort Marion then Fort St. Mark under British control, was commissioned to be built by the Queen Regent of Spain Mariana in 1672, after the destruction of many wooden forts. Over the years the Fort changed hands many times during the course of many conflicts between various countries. Today visitors relive the history by touring the fortress, simply exploring the structure and grounds, or viewing re-enactments. The Castillo de San Marcos is open from 8:45am-5:15pm every day except Christmas Day, and entrances are $6 for adults 16 and over. All other guests enter free of charge.

Located downtown in St. Augustine, Florida, the Fort is located near other attractions like the Lightner Museum, Old Jail Museum, Potter’s Wax Museum, the St. Augustine Alligator Farm, Black Raven Pirate Ship, Castillo de San Marcos and St. Augustine ECO Tours. Choose from fine area hotels like the Best Western Spanish Quarter Inn, Ramada St. Augustine and the Hilton St. Augustine Historic Bayfront.
