The Castle of Tavira or Castelo de Tavira, can be found in the province of Algarve in Portugal. Like other fortress castles, this castle offers a good view of Tavira which is 1 km away from the centre. First built by the Moors, it is believed to be first constructed in the 4th B.C. The Christians who later occupied the castle made massive improvements and developments to the castle. At present, after many centuries, what remains of the Castle of Tavira are it octagonal tower, 2 square towers and its walls on its 3 sides.

The castle is much smaller compared to other European castles but it is a lovely place. It is easy to locate this castle; from the old town of Tavira, there is a gate that connects the old town to the castle. In its interiors, one can relax in its garden while visitors are free to climb its walls and towers. It is free to visit the castle and it is open from daytime until 5pm in the afternoon.

For restaurants, shops and other facilities visitors can head back to the town centre. In Tavira which is famous for salt-making and fishing industries, there are many cozy places to stay.
