Catania-Fontanarossa Airport

Hotels near Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, Siracusa, Italy .

Catania-Fontanarossa Bellini Airport (ICAO: LICC) is located 4.3 kilometers southwest of Catania, the second largest city on the Italian island of Sicily. The airport is named after the great opera composer Vincenzo Bellini who was born in Catania.

It is the busiest domestic airport in Sicily and the third busiest in Italy with over 6 million passengers in 2008. Since its founding in 1924, the airport has been upgraded many times. In order to cope with the increasing passenger traffic, a new terminal, equipped with 20 gates and 6 loading bridges, opened in 2007 replacing the old facilities. However, a further enlargement of the terminal area seems already necessary.

The airport is located close to the A19 motorway, which links Catania with Palermo and central Sicily. The European route E45 runs to Syracuse in the south. A shuttle bus service provides transport into Catania city center and to the Central Train Station. In addition, scheduled bus services to other parts of the island are available from the airport. Taxis can be obtained from the terminal building into the city or beyond. Popular locations include nearby Siracusa, Taormina, and the westerly resorts of Palermo and Marsala.

Twenty-nine airlines operate from the airport, providing service to major European and domestic locations.

Many hotels are within easy reach in Siracusa, Catania, Palermo and Taormina. The NH Parco degli Aragonesi is located less than 2 kilometers from the airport.
