The Catedral Metropolitana, located at the corner of Rivadavia Avenue and San Martin Street in Villa Martinez de Hoz, in the district of Buenos Aires, Argentina, is an important Catholic worship center. Built under the influence of many different styles, one can observe Baroque and Roman aspects in the ornate details and imposing form of the church. Visitors marvel at the mausoleum of General San Martin inside the Cathedral, as well as the domed, painted ceilings and stained glass work. The modern Cathedral was begun after its predecessor collapsed during the night of May 23, 1752, and the present structure was declared a national historic monument on May 21, 1942.
