Located on the University of Pittsburgh campus in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is the second-tallest education building in the world- otherwise known as the Cathedral of Learning. At the heart of the campus, both figuratively and literally, the building was dedicated in 1937 and built with generous donations from the public right through the thick of the Great Depression. Today the Cathedral is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features Late Gothic Revival architecture. With 535 feet spanning 42 stories, there is plenty of room for the Cathedral of Learning to house classrooms, University administrative offices, libraries, a computer center, restaurant and more. Highlights include 27 “Nationality Rooms,” the Croghan-Schenley Ballroom, the Mulert Memorial Room, the Darlington Memorial Library, the Braun Room, the Babcock Room, the University Honors College, the Studio Theatre and the McCarl Center for Nontraditional Student Success. The building is open from 9am-3pm Monday through Friday, from 9:30am on Saturdays and 11am-3pm on Sundays. Reservations are recommended for guided tours which last around 1 hour and 30 minutes. Admissions are $3 for adults and $1 for children 8-18, while kids under $7 enter free of charge.
