A Roman Catholic cathedral, the Cathedral of St John-Baptist is located at 222 East Harris Street in Savannah, Georgia. The church's building was completed in 1899 and the first mass was then held on Christmas Eve. Archbishop Sebastian Martinelli dedicated the church in an official mass held on October 28, 1900. The structure of the Cathedral of St John-Baptist was renovated in 1959 and completed in 1963. It was again renovated in 1984, and the roof was replaced in 1998. Today, the church remains one of the largest churches in the Southern United States.
