The national university of the Roman Catholic Church, the Catholic University of America (CUA), is located in our nation’s capitol of Washington, D.C. Established in 1887 by U.S. Roman Catholic Bishops, its programs emphasize liberal arts and professional education as well as personal development. It maintains a close relationship with the Catholic Church, hosting the American Cardinals Dinner each year and working alongside the Knights of Columbus.

The CUA Campus is located in the Brookland neighborhood, covering 193 acres of land. It is the home to a number of green initiatives and sustainability programs, identifying sustainability as one of the key goals of its Office of Energy and Utilities Management.

In terms of academics, Catholic University has 11 schools and offers a number of graduate and undergraduate degree programs. It also possesses an ecclesiastical faculty of Canon law, philosophy and sacred theology.

Though CUA´s politics have been criticized in the past (it has undergone severe criticism for academic freedom violations), it is a very important educational and religious institution in the United States.
