The Centennial Museum of El Paso, Texas is part o f the University of Texas. The museum itself includes pictorial exhibits of the city throughout its history, along with artworks and artifacts from artists throughout the region, including the natives of the Chihuahuan Desert. Special exhibits usually focus on the interplay of humans, nature and culture. Adjacent to the museum is a thriving garden with flora from the Greater Chihuahuan Desert area—there are over 600 species of native plants represented. The museum was opened in 1936 and the gardens were inaugurated in 1999. Opening hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm.
