The Central Station of Hong Kong is located right in the heart of Hong Kong Island. It is the most southern terminal for the Tsuen Wan Line with connections for the Island Line, Tung Chung Line and the Airport Express. The station was originally recommended for being a part of the city’s train and railway way system in the 1960s. It was also originally to serve the stations of the Kwun Tong Line and Island Line. However, it opened and operated somewhat recently in the 80’s.

The Station was once known as two stations, the Peder Station and the Chater Station. Statistics says that the Central Station of Hong Kong had an average of 200,000 passengers daily. The Chater Station started operations on February of 1982 for the Tsuen Wan Lines and the Peder Station was opened in 1986 for the Island Line. In time, the two stations were merged and thus became known as the Central Station. Central Station is along the length of the Chater road up to the statue Square in the east and stretches Des Voeux Road to Li Yuen Street East in the west.

The station is located in quite a vital area of Hong Kong, in the central business district. Some notable buildings and places located in this district are The Hollywood Road, Ice House Street, Statue Square, Exchange Square, Jardine Square, Union and St. Joseph’s Church. Hotels in the area include the Conrad International, Island Shangrila, Ritz Carlton and the Landmark Mandarin.
