The Centre Pompidou in France was the dream of President Georges Pompidou. Pompidou wanted to establish an original cultural institution directed towards modern and contemporary work in France's capitol city of Paris. The idea was to present a place where visual arts, theater, music, cinema, literature, and spoken word could all come together under on roof without the nose in the air snobbery of most art institutions.

The Centre Pompidou opened its cultural mixture to the public back in 1977. After an expansion in 2000, the Centre now houses a museum and enhanced reception areas.

Museum and temporary exhibitions are open to the public from 11:00AM until as late as 9:00PM everyday except Tuesdays. The Cinema however can offer screenings and performances well into the night.

If visiting the center home to a public library, modern art museum, and cinema, be sure to check out the architecture of the building. Italian architect Renzo Piano and British designer Richard Rogers designed the Centre Pompidou. Its exterior is truly unique for Paris.
