Cervantes National Theatre

Hotels near Cervantes National Theatre, Buenos Aires, Argentina .

Serving as the national stage and comedy theater, the Cervantes National Theater is one of Argentina's most famous performance venues. The history of the theater dates back to 1918. It was built by Spanish born theatre producer, Maria Guerrero, and her husband, Fernando Diaz de Mendoza. King Alfonso XIII of Spain also joined the project by commissioning artisanal fixtures for the theatre, which was then built in the Spanish baroque style. Its name pays homage to Miguel de Cervantes, a famous Spanish dramatist of the day. The first production ever to play the theater was La dama boba (The Foolish Lady) in 1921. After a major fire nearly resulted in its complete destruction, the building was rebuilt and renovated, reopening in 1968. In 1997,with the passage of a National Theatre Law, it was named an official entity and granted annual state subsidies. Today visitors can enjoy modern theatrical and comedy performances in a breathtakingly designed historical building. Ticket prices vary based upon show, date, and time.

For those travelling to Buenos Aires, consider accommodations near the theater, such as the Americas Towers Hotel.
