Chandigarh Airport is located approximately 12 kilometers away from the city of Chandigarh within the Union Territory. The new and upcoming Chandigarh International Airport will soon be integrated to the existing domestic terminal. In fact, the airport is currently undergoing various constructions involving an integrated passenger terminal as well as other modernized facilities.

The new name for the airport is a hot issue in Punjab and Haryana wherein it was supposedly to be named as Mohali International Airport since it is situated within the suburb of Mohali in Chandigarh. However, it also shares territory with Haryana since the city of Chandigarh lies within the Union Territory. Hence, Haryana felt that it is not fair to name it as Mohali International Airport for it will not show their share with the airport. As of today, both states have already agreed to name it as Chandigarh International Airport. Haryana has lately announced their full support to change the name of the international airport of Chandigarh into Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport.

The upcoming integration of the new international airport will give rise to an upgraded domestic terminal, parallel taxi track, thee-link taxiways, runway extension, cargo complex and hangers of flying club activities. The new terminal will be constructed from glass and steel, which will include 4 boarding bridges, eight remote parking stands (for wide bodied aircraft) and the parking apron three.

The existing airline companies operating in the airport include the Go Air, Indian, Jet, Kingfisher, and MDLR Airlines. The airport currently caters domestic flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Ranchi, Jammu, Srinagar and Goa. Flydubai was said to start international flights last July but was canceled during the last minute and up to now no revised dates has been announced.
