Chania Old City

The Chania old city is a district located70 kilometers west of Rethymno and 145 kilometers west of Heraklion.
The Chania is considered to be the second largest city of Crete and is the capital of the Chania Prefecture. The municipality is the most densely populated outside of Athens and Thessaloniki Metropolitan Areas.
There are around 55,800 people live in the municipal area and 70,000 in the city. There are only about 4,200 people per kilometer squared in Chania.
The Venetian harbor and Chania Old City is considered one of the most beautiful districts in Crete. They are still considered this way even though it was heavily bombed in World War II. The part that was mostly destroyed was the borders of Old Town. These included the Venetian wall also known as the “Cradle of all the Civilizations.” Kasteli is the center part of Old town and has been lived in since Neolithic times.
Eleftherios Venizelos Square is in the main area of Old Town. This is the main site for tourist to visit while in Chania Old City. Akti Tompazi, Akti Kountouriotou, and Akti Enosis all feature several historical buildings and a thriving nightlife that can still be found to this day. Haledon Street is the main street that connects the old town to the modern town today.
