Chapultepec Castle has been a military academy, the Presidential Palace, the base of the emperor, and observatory over the course of its fascinating history. At this point it serves as a museum.

Perched atop Chapultepec Hill, it houses the Museo Nacional de Historia, with artifacts from the many different periods of Mexican history. Originally a summer palace for colonial viceroys, this 10,000 square meter building is notable for its Neo-classical architecture and imposing location, with terrific views around this important nature center, now a UNESCO protected site. The different gardens and walkways recall the great European country estates of the monarchs.

The museum is open from Monday to Sunday, 9 am to 5 pm. Admission is 51 Mexican pesos. Sunday admission is free. Children, seniors and the handicapped enter free at all times.
