Charles Bridge named after King Charles IV connects the Old Town of Prague to its Mala Strana or Lesser Town. First built in the 14th to 15th century, the bridge is 516 meters and 10 meters wide. The bridge is also noted for its 16 arches, 30 Baroque-style statues and 3 bridge towers. The most famous statue is that of St. John of Nepomuk who is a martyr saint and was thrown into the river. Visitors wipe the statue believing that it would bring them luck.
