The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History makes its home in Detroit, Michigan. It was founded in 1965 and is renowned for holding the world’s largest in house collection of African American culture artifacts; the permanent collection includes the Blanche Coggin Undeground Railroad Collection, the Harriet Tubman Museum Collection and the Sheffield Collection among others. The museum’s founder, Dr. Charles H. Wright, opened the museum on West Grand Boulevard, to preserve Black history, after being inspired by a memorial in Denmark dedicated to World War II heroes.
