Since the completion of a recent upgrade and extension of its customs and border facilities, Charlottetown Airport on Prince Edward Island has seen a sharp increase in passenger and flight traffic. With Delta Airlines now serving New York and Boston with flights in the summer season, the airport has transformed from mostly regional service to a more international roster.

Located in the town of Sherwood just east of Sherwood Station, Charlottetown airport (IATA code YYG) was built by the local government in the 1930s and used by the RAF during WWII. After the war, the RCAF mostly used the airport for training purposes.

Since 2000, the airport has been operated by the Charlottetown Airport Authority and focused on commercial aviation. Besides the Delta flights to the northeastern U.S., Northwest offers service to Detroit. Air Canada has regular flights to major Canadian destinations like Halifax, Toronto and Montreal, and WestJet also offers service to Toronto-Pearson.

Short term and long term parking are both are available at YYG. Major rental car carriers like Hertz and Avis are located in the ground transportation area. Taxis rides to local destinations are $12 Canadian (info as of 09/09). Limousine service is also available.
