Fans of history and spooky tales alike will enjoy a visit to The Chartz House in Carson City. Built by Alfred Chartz, a lawyer whose focus was on water and mining law, the house--and the man whose name is on it--has a history that's not as peaceful as they might seem.

For starters, the reason that Alfred Chartz made his way to Carson City in the first place was a less than pleasant series of events. Convicted of murder while living in eastern Nevada, he was eventually pardoned, and decided to start again by moving to Carson City. He bought the house that's now known as The Chartz House and started practicing law again, with his less-snoopy neighbors unaware of his more tumultuous past.

Purchased in 1894, The Chartz House was one of the nicest houses in the neighborhood, with particularly beautifully designed windows, and a moderately-sized yard. However, the house being pretty simply wasn't enough, as strange noises have been known to emanate from the house, and doors and windows allegedly open and shut on their own all of the time. The Carson City Ghost Walk tells more of those stories on their annual walk, so fans of ghosts would do well to arrange to tag along.

Currently, The Chartz House is still a private residence, even though Alfred Chartz has been dead for awhile. Thus, visiting hours aren't really available. The best bet for travelers is to find a walking tour that will give them access.
