On the banks of Loire River in the central region of France, is a medieval castle that was first built as a fortress and later was a favorite royal residence. Château d’Amboise lies 188.25 kilometers from Paris and a visit to the palace can bring visitors back in time.

It was first owned by Louis d’Amboise and was seized by the French royalty after d’Amboise was found guilty of plotting against the king. His life was spared but his beloved palace became one of the residences of the French kings and queen.

First built in the 14th century, the chateau was magnificent since then as it introduced many new designs to French architecture. The palace has many Italian motifs in its exteriors and interiors. Other than that, there are spiral turrets, tapestries, Gothic and Renaissance furniture, Damask curtains and Turkish carpets. Its garden offers a panoramic view of the river.

Another interesting sight within the chateau is the tomb of the great Italian artist, Leonardo de Vinci. Da Vinci retired in Amboise and some of his designs like an armoured tank is in display in the grounds of the chateau.
