The Chemnitz Central Station is also called Chemnitz Hauptbahnhof in German.

The Chemnitz Central Station was started in 1836, the objective behind it being to build a railway line connecting Riesa and Zwickau. The railway line was extended up to Chemnitz in the year 1852. The station was inaugurated in the year 1852 by Frederick Augustus II of Saxony. This was a renovated and new station. Then in November 1858 another station was thrown open to the public and the old station was renamed Centralbahnhof. Then onwards new lines have been continuously added and the services provided by the station extended. A track hall was added to the repertoire of services in 1902. This track hall was destroyed in World War II.
